Choose If you Dare

There comes a point in our lives… or should I say, at many points in our lives, we ask ourselves, “Who exactly am I?” At times like this, we are looking beyond what is obvious to others, beyond our great character, or morals, where we come from and where we hope to go….

Who exactly are you to yourself, what do YOU feel should define you, what makes you happy? We may feel the need for a deeper sense of purpose. Or maybe…just maybe we feel like we are ready to accommodate a more complex lifestyle. One that everything in your gut tells you YOU SHOULD be living. Whatever the case, the question of who we are needs to be explored.

During this exploration you may find yourself lost in an array of questions, drawing your attention so deeply inward that you inevitably find your answer when you least expect it.

Just because an idea or way of doing things is popular does not mean it is right for everyone. Many people go through life not taking the time to determine what is right for them, and continue doing what most people we know are doing. Our decisions in life should not be made by default. This may be an outcome of feeling pressured by family, friends or even society at large who normally do things a different way. But when faced with decisions that will directly affect you first and foremost… is following the popular opinion truly the BEST choice for yourself?

It is not always easy to make decisions that go against popular judgment; it creates apprehension within and forces you to weigh out your options under much pressure by loved ones. On your side of the fence, it’s easy to feel discouraged and defensive when you may be looking for reassurance and support.

My advice, it helps if you refocus your energy and consciously decide to be gentle and tolerant and calmly stay persistent, consistent, and communicate clearly with those whose opinions you value.

Our lives belong to us… sometimes it takes coming up against something we can no longer escape or deny (ahem, I’ve reached a crossroad) to make a life bettering decision. The hardest part of making a decision is accepting everything life will put in front of us after making it.

So let understanding sink in… and do what is best for you…for once.
